‘Observing, Hearing, Listening, Reflecting, Processing, Acting’

#AmplifyMelanatedVoices June 1–7

For those who have seen that hashtag today and aren’t sure what it means, Yahoo.com explains it this way:

“The #AmplifyMelanatedVoicesChallenge calls on social media users to focus on the social justice work of BIPOC (black, indigenous and people of color) amid the national protests surrounding racial injustice and police brutality in order to give a platform to those who are historically silenced or looked over.”

Since I can only most accurately speak from my own personal experiences, after observing, hearing, listening, reflecting and processing the death of George Floyd and the recent events, I will use the following six days to act and share a few things from life growing up as a well-to-do white and very privileged doctor’s kid as well as a racially marginalized, homeless-at-one-point, 60’s Scoop Indigenous Canadian female.
