‘The Common Denominator’

Years ago, I lived in Whistler.

For over 24 months, I called the place home. And to this day, it is one of my most favourite places on earth.

One of the coolest things about Whistler and area is, although it’s a fun and beautiful resort town, it is also world-famously touted a ‘4-season’ playground.

I remember many times in the summers chilling at the beach in the morning and in the afternoon, taking in a few laps on Blackcomb glacier. Obviously apres pints would immediately follow and then nightlife would be on at the Maxx Fish if it was Wednesday or Saturday, Garfs if it were Thursday and Tommys on Mondays.

Being able to swim (and not a polar bear swim either) and snowboard on the same day in the same place and essentially enjoy ‘4-season’ activities in one single day was amazing and unforgettable.

Kamloops isn’t exactly a ‘swim and ski in one day’ place though today on our walk, I saw people canoeing and hanging at the beach across the river and a boat was heading East upstream.

As well, in the month of December, I have seen every activity in the photo.

Rollerskating, pickle ball playing, snowmobiling, snowboarding, hiking, boating, snowshoeing, skateboarding, kayaking, canoeing and many others.

I’m grateful for this odd and more balmy-than-usual fall/winter weather and I’ve heard the snow is coming soon…which I’m definitely not sad about either.

Bring on the shredding, winter running, crazy-carpeting, X-countrying and driving. Ya…there’s something peaceful and exhilarating about grabbing a tea or coffee and driving in the snow.

Whatever you get up to this weekend an over Christmas break, I hope you get to enjoy a mixed-bag of ‘all-season’ fun.
